Amtrak 50, the eastbound "Cardinal," approaches the interlocking at Mt. Carbon, the beginning of a brief stretch of single track on the former Chesapeake & Ohio Newport News-Cincinnati main line across West Virginia. Just ahead lies the incredibly scenic New River Gorge.
