Southern inherited a line from Columbus, GA to Montgomery when they took over Central of Georgia, but the handwriting was on the wall. By the time of this photo, traffic was shrinking as Family Lines routed traffic over their own lines, and ICG decided to downgrade the former GM&O line. With little interchange traffic left, the local traffic could not sustain the line. Eastbound often required a helper on the Rea to climb out of WofA's Chester Yard, where Southern/CofG was a tenant.
