Monsoon season has been exciting so far this year in Northern Arizona. This past Tuesday, another monsoon storm rolled through Valentine. It produced thunderous skies for most of the evening. As the storm dissipated, the sun was able to peak through the clouds, producing dramatic shadows from the surrounding plateaus of the Cottonwood Mountain Range. Luck would have it as the sound of four locomotives (one dead-in-tow) could be heard grinding up the 1.42% grade of Crozier Canyon. Moments later, a 106 car-long Barstow, CA to Tulsa, OK manifest train emerges from the shadows of the canyon; and welcomed by the harsh, evening sun glaring off of it.
