1 meter gauge diesel cogwheel train "Salamander" # 13 of the Schneebergbahn is coming down the 20.0 % grade from the Hochschneeberg to Baumgartner station, in the background on the top of the mountain the Kaiserin Elisabeth-Ged?chtniskirche (memorial church of empress Elisabeth). The "Salamander" trains, built in 1999 by Waagner-Biro, Hunslet-Barclay and Swoboda/carvatech, are push-pull trains with a 544 kW diesel cogwheel locomotive, an intermediate car and a cab car in front (when running up) with 119 seats in total. The 9,8 kilometer long Schneebergbahn from Puchberg am Schneeberg on 577 meter a.s.l to the Hochschneeberg on 1796 meter a.s.l. with the Abt cogwheel system is owned and operated by the N?SBB (Nieder?sterreichische Schneebergbahn Gmbh) and was opened in 1897. The N?SBB is partly owned by the ?BB and the N?VOG (Nieder?sterreichische Verkehrs-Orgaanisations-Gesellschaft).
