Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District train 218 has just begun its journey from Gary Metro Center IN to Millennium Station in Chicago IL. NCID Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) cars 45 and 48, built by Nippon-Sharyo in 1992, comprise mid-day train 218 this day, operating on the Chicago South Shore & South Bend Railroad’s trackage. This is the last electric interurban service in the country. (Gary, Indiana – September 24, 2021)
