| The Tehachapi helper power descends back towards Mojave after helping a northbound train up the pass. Within the last few months of this photo, BNSF have started running manned helpers on Tehachapi Pass again. These helpers are based out of Edwards and help northbound trains up to Cameron where they cut off, on the fly, from the train their helping with "helper link". Helper link is a box that powers the pin lifter on the front knuckle. This allows the engineer to hit a button in the cab to unhook from the train their helping without stopping. |
