| Searles
Searles was the Junction between Southern Pacific's Jawbone Line and and Trona Railway. From here the Trona drops a long steep grade onto the the rim of Death Valley. In the photo a upgrade cut of Trona (Soda Ash) pulls the heavy grade into the yard at Searles. The big EMDs under heavy load was a nice reminder of what railroading sounded like not too long ago..... |
