    Remarks & Notes
Crossing the Arkansas River, and crossing from Little Rock to North Little Rock in the process, is an eastbound Burlington Northern coal train led by BN-subsidiary Colorado & Southern SD40-2 7806 (ex-C&S 936), BN C30-7 5121 and BN U30C 5944. This is Missouri Pacific trackage, and the single-track vertical-lift bridge, named the Junction Bridge. Built in 1884, this bridge was modified the next year to add an extra floor for pedestrian and wagon traffic. In 1970 the bridge's swing span was replaced with a lift span, but by 1985 most rail traffic over this bridge had been diverted to the Baring Cross Bridge, although some traffic continued on this line into the 1990s. This bridge was converted to a pedestrian bridge in 2008, with the lift span permanently fixed at 38-feet above the Arkansas River, with access provided by stairs or a glass-enclosed elevator. (North Little Rock, Arkansas – April 9, 1983) Thanks to Bradley for the assist with the research!
