The renumbered and repainted NS F9 A-B-B-A set made an appearance in the St. Louis area shortly before they were retired. Departure towards Louisville via the Southern West District was at sunrise on a weekday which was about the best lighting anyone could hope for. Not sure the reason for the trip but with 12 cars, I'm sure there was much to discuss!
Train 955 is shown from the 26th St bridge after turning eastbound from the TRRA Illinois Transfer onto the NS mainline at Coapman Yard in East St. Louis, IL. Coapman was a former Southern facility that was downgraded after the N&W / SOU merger in favor of the former Wabash Luther Yard in St. Louis. Coapman is seeing a bit of a resurgence of rebuild and extended yard tracks due to an expansion of nearby Metro East Industries - an industrial park behind me. All of the containers stacked up are stored by a local trucking company (nearest NS ramp is at Luther Yard).
Photos of North America's favorite First Generation locomotives. EMD, ALCO, Baldwin; essentially anything that represents the OG wide cab diesel locomotive
