After cresting Donner Summit, train ZLTG2 (Lathrop, CA - Global 2 Intermodal) passes under the classic Southern Pacific era searchlight signal bridge at Andover. One of the more remote parts of the line the walk into Andover is not for the faint of heart, requiring an almost 4 mile round trip from the trail head parking lot. On this day however, the normally closed gate of the road was open, allowing me to cut the hike down to 1 mile round trip. Luckily the Z was lined all the way up the hill, and I only had to wait 30 minutes for it to emerge out of the tunnel and around the curve into view.
