When the Susquehanna was seeking a way to get its stack trains off of Conrail’s ex-Erie main line to avoid interference with Metro-North trains, the first step was acquisition of the former Lehigh & Hudson River main line between Sparta Junction, New Jersey and Warwick, New York. Before the stack trains could be rerouted, significant work remained on the NYS&W line over Sparta Mountain. On the meantime, NYS&W RS1 252 was reactivated to serve local customers on the L&HR. Here it switches the Conrail interchange in Warwick.
