      Remarks & Notes
In honor of the 37th anniversary of the release of “Goonies” on 6/7/1987 we go to the waterfront in Astoria, Oregon. This former Spokane Portland and Seattle line still sees seasonal traffic by a restored trolley which passes within blocks of many filming locations from not only the Goonies movie, but others as well. Originally built in 1913, this former San Antonio Traction Co. trolley trundles past the iconic 1900 net drying and mending shed. Natural fiber nets, which often were made in the fishermen’s homes during the winters, needed to be dried between uses. Fishermen could navigate their boats right up under the building where a hoist would lift the nets to dry. The building, damaged in the same 2007 storm that landlocked the Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad also appeared in the movie “Free Willy II”.
