Remarks & Notes

When you begin meeting trains in New Orleans at one pm, and don't escape the confines of UP and CN at their various snared junctions, you tend to end up much later out of town than you thought. Such is the case here for KCS 1 north. The empty run of the "Amtrak Inspection Trip" (we've seen this before) is seen here rolling down the western side of the massive Huey P Long bridge in Port Allen, Louisiana. Not as well known as its Nola counterpart, but nonetheless impressive, is the Baton Rouge crossing of the Mississippi River. Getting the F's on the bridge is probably the best prize you could hope for these days. With just about 2 minutes of shootable conditions left BSHNO-20 snuck across at not much more than a trundle as they slid down to Lobdell Pass for a crew swap. If there's ever been an example of why I own fast glass this would be it. Anything less than F2.8, maybe f4, would be impossible here. With the stakes as high as they were here I was certainly glad for the 2.8 aperture on my 24-70, and found myself wishing I had a fast 35mm prime... Mission accomplished... Barely.
