Remarks & Notes

With 6 DXC class locomotives on the front, loaded coal train 850 gets away from Otira. The extra 4 locomotives on the head are there to assist in getting the train through the steep Otira tunnel. At Arthurs Pass the 4 locomotives will be taken off and just 2 DXC locomotives will complete the rest of the trip to Christchurch.
