    Remarks & Notes
Holding the Marker. Brooklyn Union Elevated car 1407 (Jewett/Pressed Steel, 1907) stopped at the Essex Street Station in Manhattan, New York on August 18, 2019 as it prepared for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA NYCT Subway/New York Transit Museum Nostalgia Special to commemorate the end of service on the Myrtle Avenue Elevated between Broadway and Jay Street on October 4, 1969. The first section opened on April 10, 1888, and today the remaining portion of the line operates today between Metropolitan Avenue and Myrtle Avenue. For the trip, a 3-car train of elevated BUs (1407-1273-1404) was coupled to a 4-car train of R-9 subway cars (100-381-1000-1802) and brought out to the Eastern Division of the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit (BMT). Passengers are not permitted to ride on elevated cars underground by NYC Law, but the trains were separated once they were outside and riders were allowed to choose either the BUs or the R-9s.
