Four SDP40Fs are on the headend of train 3, the westbound Southwest Limited, because this train is delivering new locomotive 587, built in May 1974, which will be assigned to Amtrak trains operated on the Southern Pacific (the Southwest Limited operates on the Santa Fe between Chicago and Los Angeles). The consist for this train, sitting at Los Angeles Union Station after its early morning arrival, is AMTK 504, 505, 510 and 587. (Los Angeles, California – June 2, 1974)
