A 10-car train of R62 cars (Kawasaki, 1983-1985) is seen stretched out over the Bronx River. The Pelham Line crosses the waterway here in a very high through truss rather than the typical elevated structure. When the line was built, the Bronx River was still a navigable waterway this far upstream. Thus the road bridge was a drawbridge, and the elevated line was built at this height to ensure clearance for marine traffic without the need for an expensive and high-maintenance movable span.
