        Remarks & Notes
But Which Place? The famous sign proclaims "Bristol: A Good Place To Live" describing the cities of the same name in both Virginia and Tennessee as Norfolk Southern Corp Train 127 (North Yard - Roanoke, VADeButts Yard - Chattanooga, TN/NS) has ES40DC NS 7596 (7/2006, GE) leading over the crossing at State Street that is aptly named for being the border between the two. The First Baptist Church in the background and former Norfolk & Western Railway Station in the foreground, where passenger service came to an end on April 30, 1971 upon the formation of Amtrak, are both in Virginia as the train enters Tennessee. The sign was erected in 1910, moved to this location in 1915, changed in 1921 to "A Good Place To Live" resulted from a contest for a new slogan, and 101 years later is still going strong, as seen on November 20, 2022.
