At 5:34 am, the Sunset Limited should just be arriving at its final destination. But thanks to some generous schedule padding, the Sunset has already been in Los Angeles for nearly an hour! P42DCs 9 and 42 (the carrier's "Amtrak Salutes Our Veterans" unit) idle quietly on Track 12 as Union Station begins to come to life as equipment for the day's first trains arrive and are readied for their passengers.
