The railroad is owned by Searles Valley Minerals. The company produces borax, boric acid, soda ash, salt cake, and salt and interchanges with the Union Pacific Railroad at Searles Station outside of Ridgecrest, CA. From the plant in Trona the railroad runs some 30 miles through remote desert land to the interchange using former UP and SP EMD power.
