WC 1236 & 1231 are paired up for heavy yard switching at Wisconsin Central's North Fond Du Lac Yard. This yard was the largest on the WC and classified trains coming from throughout their system for delivery to Chicago connections and vice versa. Also known as Shops Yard, WC handled heavy maintenance on locos and rolling stock as well with capability of rebuilding locos and assembling freight cars, a carry over from Soo Line days. CN has reduced or eliminated some of these activities but still does a lot of switching here.
