Remarks & Notes

BN 9984 dressed in an early attempt at a BN color scheme for former CB&Q E units idles at a platform in Chicago Union Station with a "Dinky", the nickname often associated with Burlington/BN commuter trains. After Amtrak was formed BN used a separate group of Es for commuter service. Morrison-Knudsen rebuilt 21 E8s & 9s in 1973 with 645EC engines and Detroit Diesel HEP generators. 4 more were rebuilt in 1978. The 9984 became BN 9914 when rebuilt. The fleet was replaced and sold off in 1992.
