An "almost A-B-A" set of Santa Fe GP60s winds around Tehachapi Loop. Things are not quite as they may seem. The GP60 trio is actually in helper service, so at this point they are assisting with braking for the roughly 50-mile downgrade from Summit Switch to Bakersfield, CA. This manifest train was clearly just long enough so the helpers on the hind end would pass over the train they are assisting around the loop.
Aside from Warbonnets and Chiefs, Santa Fe was a workaday railroad like any other. This album showcases that less glamorous--but no less vital--side of the famous ATSF.
