A set of SEPTA Silverliner V's arrive in Claymont, DE, where a pair of retrofitted bus shelters suffice for a station. The original station, seen here in a photo by Don Oltmann, was built by the PRR in 1906 and located on the opposite side of the tracks. Sadly, it burned down on July 25th, 1981.
This station is slated to be replaced with the Claymont Regional Transportation Center this Fall. The new station will be located 1/2 mile north of the current station at the former site of Evraz Claymont Steel, which is being redeveloped into a mixed-use office, commercial, and light industrial development, and will have connections to area roads, public transportation, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities.
