Fresh out of a multi-year mechanical restoration project, now it gets to run on their mainline. Whitewater Valley ex-ARMCO Lima LS1000 No. 709 leads a test train of four coaches and sister WVRR Lima LS750 No. 25 southbound at the IN 121 Crossing on the outskirts of Alpine. These two locomotives represent half of the surviving Lima diesel locomotives on Earth, now both active. The WVRR also has a 3rd Lima stored at their facility in Connersville, with the 4th and final unit being at the Illinois Railway Museum. Next up for the 709 will be a coat of her as-delivered ARMCO colors.
