      Remarks & Notes
Switching passenger cars in Seattle is Amtrak SW1200 (SSB1200) 565. Built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division as Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe SW1200 2439 in June 1959, this locomotive was rebuilt into an SSB1200 (ATSF 1239) in February 1974. While the upgrade was mainly internal, these locomotives had their trucks upgraded with roller bearings and fresh paint. The ATSF traded several end-cab switchers, including ATSF 1239, to Amtrak in September 1984 in trade for some of Amtrak’s excess SDP40F road units. Amtrak 565 was retired in December 2005. (Seattle, Washington – May 30, 1986). Ron Hawkins photograph, Craig Walker collection
