Lake Shore Limited in Virginia?? The Appalachian Mountains loom in the background as a late eastbound Cardinal departs Clifton Forge. Usually the Cardinal runs with a short consist and a single locomotive but today it had 17 cars and four locomotives, two of which being 50th anniversary units 100 and 108. Apparently, there was an issue in Chicago, which somehow led Amtrak to combine a Cardinal consist and a Lakeshore Limited consist making for one epic and rare Amtrak train!
With Northeast Regional trains, Auto Train and long distance service to Florida, New Orleans and Chicago, a lot of train riding and train watching can be had.
