Boston & Maine SW9 1223 was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in January 1952. EMD built 815 of these 1200 horsepower switchers – 786 for American owners, and 29 in Canada for operators up there. B&M rostered a dozen of these, numbered BM 1220-1231.
