On a September 12th, 2023, Amtrak P42DC #100, painted in "Midnight Blue", leads Vermonter train 55 past the original Boston & Maine signals at North Switch Walpole on the NECR Palmer Subdivision in North Walpole, New Hampshire. These signals are operating on borrowed time as Genesee & Wyoming continues to make upgrades along the line.
The successor to the Montrealer, the Vermonter runs between St. Albans, Vt., and Washington, DC. Much of the northern part of the route runs along the Connecticut and White Rivers.
