Monaghan's Last LRV Trip Before Retirement. On Saturday, September 16, 2023, 37-year SEPTA Trolley Operator Bill Monaghan Jr. retired. For his final trip, he operated a charter using SPAX 9096 (Kawasaki, 1981) to benefit Friends of Philadelphia Trolleys, an organization that Bill and others founded in 2003 to help preserve the legacy of Philadelphia electric traction. Between "Off Duty" and "Monaghan's LRV", Bill makes a final stop before yarding the car for the final time. Bill, who started his career at the Luzerne Depot in 1986 working on PCCs, will continue to embrace his role as husband, father, grandfather, while no longer waking up at 0400 for work.
