Good Road Test. CTrail GP40-3H CTDX 6698 (ex-CSX 2181, exx-SBD 2181, née-CRR 2001, GP38, 4/1967) is the newest lease addition to the MTA Metro-North Railroad roster. After seeing shop time at MNR's Croton Harmon facility, on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, the locomotive made a successful run to CP 39 to test out its repairs prior to entering service. It joins sister unit CTDX 6699 to supplement the CDOT and Metro-North Brookville built BL20GH/GHMs to provide shuttle service on the Danbury and Waterbury Branches. The locomotive is seen with passing through the 1912 built former New York Central Oscawana Tunnel on the Hudson Line.
