“PB&W, 1905” Amtrak Train 2250(5) shuns the exquisite Perryville Station as it speeds north, regaining velocity after crossing the Susquehanna River Movable Bridge at a maximum of 90 mph. No Amtrak trains, let alone an Acela Express, stop here. The station was built in 1905 by the Philadelphia, Baltimore & Washington Railroad [read PRR]. The datestone on the right reads “P.B.W.”; the one on the left reads “1905”. This beautifully restored station, now under Amtrak ownership, but leased to the Maryland Transit Administration, still hosts weekday commuters, however. In fact, Perryville is the northern terminus of the MARC Penn Line commuter service.
The last Amtrak public timetable showing Perryville Station was effective April 24, 1983. Amtrak’s Chesapeake (420/421), was discontinued on October 30, 1983.
