The 25 kilometer long former service railroad of the International Rhine Regulation (IRR) with 75 cm track gauge and electrified with 750 V direct current since 1946, has been operated by the "Rhein-Schauen" (Rheinb?hnle) association from the Lustenau/Austria depot since 2006. The mixed electro/diesel locomotive "HEIDI", built in 1946 by the Ernst Stadler company from Zürich, predecessor of the StadlerRail of today, is crossing the Rhine over the 260 meter long road/rail Wiesenrain bridge from Lustenau Wiesenrain (Austria) to Widnau (Switzerland). This was the last day of rail operation over the Wiesenrain bridge of 1914, which will be lifted about 1 meter for flood protection reasons. The locomotive takes the current from the very simple overhead line with a rod pantograph.
