      Remarks & Notes
GOFFS CA Sept 8 1983 — ATSF C30-7 8091 accelerates under a mostly sunny sky. GE built the unit (s/n 42402) in May 1979 with an air conditioning unit mounted in the nose, 74:18 gear ratio and painted blue body with yellow warbonnet livery. In 1985 it was re-geared to 83:20. In June 1992 it was Laid Up Bad Order in Topeka KS. Santa Fe retired the unit in and traded it to GE where it was Laid Up Pending Disposition. In March 1994 Conrail acquired it, rebuilt it as a C36-7EM, repainted it and renumbered it CRL (558 or 590). Conrail sold it to GE in January 1999. It was assigned to freight service in the GECX lease fleet but was sold it to Helm Financial before March 1999. Corrections/additions welcome My photo.

Aside from Warbonnets and Chiefs, Santa Fe was a workaday railroad like any other. This album showcases that less glamorous--but no less vital--side of the famous ATSF.

      Railroading in the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, basically anything but the 2000s.
