    Remarks & Notes
Seattle's skyline, as seen from across Elliott Bay. A tug boat pulls a barge with rail cars upon it – bulkhead flats with lumber and at least one wood chip car – a not uncommon sight in these waters. Railroad barges connect Seattle to the Milwaukee Road in Port Townsend, on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, as well as British Columbia Railway in Squamish or North Vancouver in British Columbia, and even as far away as the Alaska Railroad in Anchorage, Alaska. This may be one of the barges bound for BC, most likely a Union Pacific-British Columbia Railway interchange, as the UP had no direct connection to the BCOL. This tug boat, based upon the red and white paint, could be a Crowley Maritime (or a former Crowley Maritime) vessel. (Seattle, Washington – September 9, 1979). [And thanks to Bob Zenk, Colin Hakeman and Rick Selby for their assistance with some of this information!]
