This Bridge Cost More Than a Penny!
New York & Atlantic train RS40 is seen crawling along the Lower Montauk Branch on their way to Blissville Yard. The train is roughly at the location of the former LIRR Penny Bridge Station, which opened in 1859 and served trains until 1998, when it and all other stations on the branch were closed due to lack of ridership and incompatibility with the railroad's new C3 cars. The station was named after a bridge that existed on this site until 1939, and though there is no longer a bridge at this exact location, the Kosciuszko Bridge now stands tall overhead.
