“Destination: Miami” In the early afternoon, AMTK F40PH 276 pauses Amtrak 89, the southbound Palmetto, at the Fredericksburg station to board some Virginians bound for The Sunshine State on Sunday, December 14, 1986.
Despite Florida DOT’s attempts to convince Amtrak to extend the Palmetto to Miami, Train 89 terminates at Savannah, thus requiring said Virginians to change trains there to reach their ultimate destination.
With Northeast Regional trains, Auto Train and long distance service to Florida, New Orleans and Chicago, a lot of train riding and train watching can be had.
