      Remarks & Notes
An eastbound Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway freight passes over itself as it rounds the Tehachapi Loop (called Walong in the Southern Pacific timetable, on whose trackage the ATSF has trackage rights) on its climb over the Tehachapi Mountains. The train is passing over itself as the power (GP35 3429, SD45 5517, U36C 8739 and SD45 5525) is crossing above Tunnel 9 as the latter-half of the train is still exiting the tunnel. I've been to Pennsylvania's Horseshoe Curve, but the line across the Tehachapis eclipses that as it features at least five horseshoe curves that are tighter than the one in Pennsylvania, as well as this 360o+ loop built to gain altitude in a small area, unique in American railroading. Sadly, getting this access to this area is no longer possible because the owner of this land got tired of irresponsible railfans. (Keene, California – March 19, 1978)
