The Winter of 1981 was a dry one, as evidenced by the lack of greenery in the Tehachapi Mountains as an eastbound Santa Fe freights winds through Cable, location of one of the many passing sidings on Southern Pacific's crossing of the mountains. Santa Fe has trackage rights over Tehachapi Pass, as exemplified by this train led by SD45-2 5650. (Golden Hills, California - February 21, 1981)
