Subway Series Car. The 2000 World Series was played entirely within the confines of the five boroughs of New York City as the Yankees played the Mets. For the occasion, the MTA NYCT Subway took some "Redbirds"(R-33S/36WF) that were operating to Shea Stadium on the 7 Line and R-142s that served Yankee Stadium on the 4 Line and added branding for both teams. The only car that retained its logos, R-33S 9327 (St. Louis Car Company, 1963), was on display at the New York Transit Museum's Court Street Station in 2004-2005 for a time before being acquired by and shipped to the Seashore Trolley Museum in June 2005. It is seen sitting in the snow in at the museum's entrance in Kennebunkport, Maine on the night of February 26, 2021, still displaying a rush hour diamond 7 "bullet" and a destination sign reading Willets Pt/Shea Stdm. Sitting behind it is R-22 7371 (St. Louis Car Company, 1958) displaying multiple incorrect numbers, which was converted to a signal dolly/rider car and arrive during the same period of time. It is possible that history will repeat itself 24 years later with the New York Yankees and Mets both going deep into their respective League Championship Series as fans anxiously watch both teams battle for to compete in the World Series.
