Boxing Day Delivery. It was a cold post Christmas day eve on December 26, 2020 when BNSF 7196 (ES44C4, GE) was sitting in Amtrak's Chicago, Illinois Yard with a long string of brand new Siemens Venture coaches. The design of the cars is based on the Siemens Viaggio Comfort model sold in Europe, and they were first purchased and put into service by Brightline in 2018. Amtrak Midwest purchased 88 cars to go along with SC-44 locomotives and replace the mix of AmFleets, Horizons, and Superliners that serve the state supported routes in Illinois, Michigan, and Missouri. The first cars from this class entered revenue service on Amtrak in 2022.
