| A quiet Sunday morning finds newly placed Great Northern caboose X-259 (built 1948) sitting on rails in front of the city of Bemidji’s Great Northern Depot. This depot happens to be James J. Hill’s last commissioned depot. The caboose arrived at its new home on Jan 25th, 2024, and will be preserved and made safe for visitors while being an educational tool connecting those folks with the past railroad activity that helped shape the area. The depot is currently home to the Beltrami County Historical Society. |
