New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) R255 hybrid battery-diesel locomotive HL007 is seen atop a flat car at Conrail Shared Assets Operations (CSAO) Greenville Yard in Jersey City, NJ. The locomotive is one of 25 model WAB6HYB locomotives being built by Wabtec for the TA for use with work trains. The battery option allows them to operate in work zones where third rail power has been turned off, without the need for added ventilation to remove diesel exhaust fumes from the tunnel. The batteries are rated for approximately 500 kwh, which will allow them to work for up to 8 hours on battery power alone.
