        Remarks & Notes
Happy Barnum & Bailey Circus Day! On March 28, 1881, P.T. Barnum and James A. Bailey merged their circuses to form "The Greatest Show on Earth". For decades, when the circus came to town in many places, it also meant that Circus Train came to town. On May 11, 2015, we catch a view of it crossing Iona Island, New York on the CSX River Line, this location selected because of the large open area to include the lengthy consist in the photo. CSXT 968 (ES44AC) and 739 (ES44AC-H) lead CSX P929 at sunset as it heads towards New Jersey after the train was held a bit up the line for a number of other trains to pass. The Circus Trains were composed of dozens of legacy railroad passenger cars of various configurations, as well as freight cars to carry its motor vehicles. In 2017, the final Circus Trains operated after the final Barnum & Bailey circuses, and the cars have since been dispersed across the country.
