Workhorse. Just months away from turning 33 years old, Metrolink F59PHR #856 leads eastbound San Bernardino Line train 1354 through the city of La Verne towards San Bernardino. Now the second oldest active locomotive in the Metrolink fleet, 856 has outlived most of its sibling F59PHs and the entire, younger, fleet of F59PHIs. It, along with four other rebuilt F59PHs, are the only original Metrolink locomotives still running strong powering trains in Southern California. Though it inevitably has fewer years in front of it than behind it, for now 856 remains a reliable workhorse that is always a pleasure to see.
