The Southwest Chief discontinued service east of Cameron Connection in 1998. Once the BNSF merger got going and the connection was built, the Chief stopped taking the Chillicothe Sub into Chicago. All Amtrak trains would use the Mendota Sub going forward. Other than oddball moves, passenger trains didn't use the old Santa Fe anymore. The depot was also torn down sometime later.
