Colorado & Southern (narrow gauge) #9 rests under its own canopy in a park at the southern end of Breckenridge, at the base of Boreas Pass, where it certainly spent time working, possibly with nearby friend DL&G Rotary 01 (C&S Rotary 99201).
Built in 1884 by the A.L. Cooke Locomotive Works, it was originally built for the Denver, South Park and Pacific as #72, then renumbered quickly to 114. When Denver Leadville & Gunnison was formed in 1889 it continued in service through the creation of Colorado & Southern in 1889 when it became C&S 9.
C&S 9 was primarily used for passenger service, and notably pulled the last scheduled passenger train from Leadville to Denver in 1937. It was retired shortly thereafter. It is in excellent shape cared for by folks in Breckenridge and other benefactors.
