| The former DW&P Depot near the end of Chestnut Street in Virginia, MN basks in the evening sun on the shore of Silver Lake. The three-story depot was built in 1913 on pilings and concrete and made of sandstone and brick. The building was built to provide passenger service to Virginia and did so for the DW&P for many years until July 1, 1961. The station was sold to Northern State Bank in the late 70's and functions today as the home of the local bank. The other structure is the Virginia Public Utilities steam plant which used to receive coal via the DM&IR. Photo taken from the new floating walking/biking/fishing trail built recently by the city. |
