Blue Gamblers' Express. NJ Transit's Conrail Unit On The Atlantic City Line. New Jersey Transit's Conrail Heritage Unit, GP40PH-2B NJTR 4208 (ex-CR 3191, née-Penn Central 3191, EMD, GP40, 10/1968) operated on the Atlantic City Line on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Passenger service on this line was operated by Conrail under contract to the State of New Jersey, but used Budd RDCs. Conrail also operated freight on this line during its time as a Class I railroad, and continues to run on adjacent track and share the Delair Bridge with NJ Transit, so its appearance is a nominal return to its once home rails. Like all NJT diesels, its assignment to the line is temporary, so if you have the chance, get out and see it while it is still there. The train is seen departing the Atlantic City, New Jersey Station. The "Gamblers' Express" as a name give to this service by Amtrak, which operated here from 1989-1995.
