| Work is well underway at Hillsport, Ontario on CN's Northern Ontario District changing out old 80lb stick rail milled in 1924 to newer PW 136lb rail on the former Manitouwadge Sub now service track. When CN & CP pulled their rails from Manitouwadge after the closure of the mine CN left a small section and spur for loading pulp wood. Later during the Hunter area and PSR CN started running oversiding (6000ft) trains and having them split in sidings to meet. This would eventually lead to several extended sidings between Toronto and Winnipeg but to date there are still a few locations where trains will double over for 2 or 3 fleeted westbound moves twice a day. The tailend remote of CN's hotshot Vancouver, BC to Toronto, ON "Z" passes crews getting the job done safely. |
